Addressing the health status of migrant women in a high income country

The aim of this study is to analyse the access to, use of maternity care services as well as birth outcomes by ethnic minority women in Iceland. The overall aim will be met by fulfilling the following specific objectives:

  • study differences in maternal health care and maternal and perinatal outcomes between Icelandic women and foreign born women,
  • describe migrant women´s experiences as they move through the different stages of maternity care and explore how they make sense of their trajectory through the maternal health care system in Iceland,
  • to investigate health professional’s perspective and experiences of providing maternity care to migrant women.
