COVID-19 Prediction Model

A group of scientists, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health and the National Hospital, have created a prediction model for the number of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 and the corresponding burden on the health care system.

The first results from the prediction model were introduced to the public on live broadcast on national television during an information briefing from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management in March 2020. Since then results from the prediction model has been referred to in the media numerous times and used by the government and leaders in the health care sector.

The head of the prediction model on behalf of University of Iceland’s Health Sciences Institute is Dr. Thor Aspelund.

COVID-19 Infection Tracking

Students from the School of Health Sciences aided the Infection Tracking Team from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management. The students were responsible for contacting people who were supposed to be in quarantine and providing them with instructions and guidelines.

All passengers arriving to Iceland via Keflavik International airport in spring 2020 were supposed to enter a 14 days quarantine. The passengers received a text message with instructions from he Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management. The text message was then followed through with a phone call from our students giving further information and advice.

COVID-19 National Resilience Cohort

Text

A group of scientists, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health and the Chief Epidemiologist, are conducting a scientific study with the aim of increasing knowledge about the epidemic’s effects on the well-being and lifestyle of Icelanders.

The study is part of an international study project in this field and is called the COVID-19 National Resilience Cohort and is funded by the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Government and NordForsk.

Our principal investigator is Dr. Unnur Valdimarsdóttir.

The research project looks at the health outcome of Covid-19 patients and the structure of the COVID-19 health care at Landspítali University Hospital.

COVIDMENT

Text

The COVIDMENT project was designed to significantly advance current knowledge of mental morbidity trajectories in the COVID-19 pandemic, by utilizing large, data-rich population-based registry resources, biobanks, and ongoing questionnaire data with longitudinal follow-up (est. >23 million individuals; of which >800.000 with confirmed COVID-19 infection), biobanks (est. >500.000 individuals), and new COVID-19 cohorts with questionnaire data (est. > 250.000 individuals). 

Our principal investigator is Dr. Unnur Valdimarsdóttir.
